Short answer: Branding is how a business becomes recognisable, consistent and trustworthy at every point of contact with its customer. Corporate identity is its visible part: logo, colours, typography, imagery, tone and their applications on cards, packaging, signage, website and social media. Poua Design, a creative studio in Athens, has been designing complete corporate identities for businesses across Greece since 2010.

What branding is, and how it differs from a logo

Many business owners ask for “a logo” when what they need is branding. A logo is a mark. Branding is a system: how the business speaks, how it looks, how it behaves and what promise it makes. When a customer sees your packaging on the shelf, your card at a meeting or your Instagram profile, they should recognise the same business without reading the name. That is the result of a well-designed corporate identity.

At Poua Design, branding always starts with the business itself: its story, its sector, its competition and the customer it speaks to. Design comes after, as an answer to that data, not as decoration.

What a complete corporate identity includes

Every project is different, but a complete corporate identity from Poua Design usually includes the following:

1. Research and brand positioning

Before anything is designed, we study the sector, the competitors and the audience. We arrive at a clear position: what makes the business different and why someone should choose it. That position guides every design decision.

2. Logo and mark

We design the primary logo, its variations (horizontal, vertical, single-colour, reverse) and the mark that works on its own at small sizes, such as the icon on social media or a stamp on packaging.

3. Colour palette and typography

We define colours with exact Pantone, CMYK, RGB and HEX codes so they reproduce correctly in print and on screen. We choose typefaces for headings and text, with usage rules so the identity stays consistent even when someone else produces the material.

4. Visual language

Illustration, patterns, photographic style and graphic elements that accompany the logo. At Tyrakeion, for example, we designed black-and-white sketches inspired by the cheesemaking process, applied to packaging, stationery and milk bottles.

5. Applications

Business cards, letterheads, envelopes, stamps, shop signs, packaging, staff clothing, social media templates, email signature, presentations. Everything the business needs to operate from day one with a single image.

6. Brand guidelines

A manual that explains how the identity is used: spacing, minimum sizes, what’s allowed and what isn’t. It’s the tool that protects the brand as it grows.

How we work: the process step by step

Briefing. A first meeting (in person in Athens or online) where we listen to the business’s story, goals and needs. We then send a quote with clear scope and timeline.

Research and concept. We study the sector and the competition, build moodboards and arrive at 1–2 directions. We present the thinking behind each proposal, not just images.

Design. We develop the chosen direction into a full system: logo, variations, colours, typography, applications. The client sees realistic mock-ups to understand how the identity will look in practice.

Revisions. Rounds of revisions are included so the result is exactly what the business needs.

Delivery and production. We deliver all files in print and web formats, with usage instructions. Because we have 15 years’ experience in print production, we can also supervise printing: papers, finishes, colours, the printer.

Three examples from our work

Tyrakeion, Kea. A family cheese dairy, in business since 1950, that wanted to pass to the next generation with a contemporary image without losing tradition. The logo was based on the traditional milk churn, the palette (white, black, yellow) balances old with modern, and the identity was applied to cheese packaging, milk bottles, the shop sign and print.

Momar Beauty Hall, Nea Irakleio. A new aesthetics space. The logo emphasises the initial letter as a calligraphic signature. The black–salmon palette speaks to both sexes, with plain lines and pastel tones on cards, letterheads, signage and website.

Athens Gents. A bar-services company for weddings and corporate events. We designed the mark, typography and applications on staff uniforms, caps, cards and a custom bar, so the brand is recognisable in physical space as well as online.

Which businesses it suits

Poua Design has designed identities for dining and hospitality businesses, beauty and wellness spaces, retail shops, food and local products, construction companies, freelancers, associations and events. Our experience across different sectors means we don’t apply the same recipe everywhere: every identity is designed for its specific audience and its specific point of sale.

When do you need new branding

When you’re starting a new business. When your existing image no longer matches the level of your services. When you’re expanding into a new market or channel (for example, an e-shop). When your applications look as if they belong to different companies. When your logo doesn’t work at small sizes or on screen. In every case, a short conversation is enough to see whether you need a full identity or a targeted refresh (rebranding).

Frequently asked questions

How much does a corporate identity cost?

It depends on the scope: a logo with basic applications costs differently from a full identity with packaging, signage and brand guidelines. After the first briefing we send a detailed quote with no commitment.

How long does it take?

A complete branding project usually takes 4–8 weeks, depending on the number of applications and how fast the client approves.

Do you only work with businesses in Athens?

No. The studio is in Athens, but we work with businesses across Greece and abroad, with online meetings and presentations. We’ve designed identities for businesses on Kea, Kythnos, Anafi, Corfu and Crete.

What files will I receive?

All logo files in vector format (AI, EPS, PDF, SVG) and in web formats (PNG, JPG), application files ready for print, colour specifications and usage guidelines.

Can you also handle printing?

Yes. We supervise print production, choose papers and finishes and work with printers we trust, so the final result is exactly as designed.
